Bajaj Chetak electric scooter was officially launched in India, Priced from Rs. 1 lakh, Bajaj Chetak is home-grown two-wheeler manufacturer’s first electric scooter under its electric vehicle (EV) division, which is called Bajaj Urbanite. The Chetak electric scooter comes in two variants – Urbane edition and Premium edition. The Urbane edition with drum brakes is priced at Rs. 1 lakh whereas the premium edition with disc brakes cost Rs. 1.15 lakh. The company delivered the first batch of the electric scooters in Pune and Bengaluru last month. The scooter is available for sale via non-KTM dealerships.
Bajaj Chetak electric scooter flaunts all-metal body that highlights its neo-retro design. However, the distinctive silhouette of the scooter seems to be inspired from the Vespa. The main highlights of the scooter are circular LED headlamp, premium paint finish, alloy wheels, fully digital instrument panel, keyless ignition and more. Additionally, the instrument panel on the scooter provides detail such as battery range, and real-time battery indicator.
The scooter is equipped with 12-inch wheels, a single-sided trail link front suspension, and a single-shock rear suspension. Bajaj’s first electric scooter is manufactured its manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. The company is offering the scooter with 3 years / 50,000 km warranty. Powering the scooter is an IP67 rated 3 kWh lithium-ion battery that provides 5.36 bhp of maximum power against 16 Nm of peak torque.
The scooter features two operational modes - Eco, and Sport. The company claims that the scooter offers a maximum range of over 95 km in In Eco mode in a single charge. On the other hand, the Sport mode provides a range of around 85 km when charged fully.
The Pune-based manufacturer also claims that the life of the battery equipped on the scooter is around 70,000 km and it has been tested under various circumstances such as road surfaces, terrain and different weather conditions. The battery can be fully charged in just five hours. Moreover, it can be charged up to 25 per cent in just an hour without any fast charger.
